Holy macaroni... what a vivid, imaginative, and colorful universe this limbless fellow lives in!

I was a huge fan of Rayman Origins, which was released two years ago. At that time, I considered it to be the best 2D platformer in the history of gaming, and I believe that has remained true - until now. Ubisoft has done gamers everywhere a huge service by improving upon their remarkable formula in every possible way, and delivering a game that's even BETTER than the awesome platformer that is Origins.

Foremost, the visuals of Legends need to be addressed. One of the best things about Origins was that it looked like you were controlling a cartoon, which resulted in terrific animations, slapstick comedy, bizarre spectacles, and OODLES of SMILES. I would have been perfectly happy if this sequel looked exactly like Origins, but somehow the developers have made it look even better. The graphics in this game POP like nothing I've ever seen before, and it looks even more like an animated movie than ever. Graphics generally have little to do with actual gameplay, but in the case of the Rayman games, their whimsical presentation has a direct correlation with the end result (that being fun, laughter, and wonder), so they do have a big impact here. This game is a visual treat, and I predict that it will be impervious to the "aging" that most games suffer from, because the art direction is so marvelously realized.

Though Legends' graphics may make this game look a tad childish, do not be deceived - this is a meticulously designed platformer that offers tremendous challenges. Furthermore, if you study the layout of the levels and practice, you will discover that there is an incredible amount of sophistication here. As far as I can tell, EVERY level can be played in one swift movement, with no hesitation whatsoever - if you have the skill to memorize the patterns and the reflexes to guide you (which comes in handy when attempting to complete time challenges). I am blown away by the amount of care that the designers put into this game. I don't see any "shortcuts" or evidence of "going through the motions" to fill out content.

And on the subject of content, there is a staggering amount here. The campaign alone is very long, particularly for a 2D platformer, but what makes the game infinitely larger is the amount of additional challenges and collectibles. Multiplayer is also a blast, and I can have fun playing Legends with less experienced gamers. Though it is far harder to complete challenges when I have other gamers along for the ride, that's not what it's about - it's about having fun and watching Rayman and Globox slap each other silly.

It bears mentioning that you can have anybody play this game with you, from a five-year-old to your granny. There is no violence other than the "cartoon" variety, and it's a huge departure from the glut of ultra-violent titles that have saturated the market in recent years. To me, this is a wonderful, beautiful break from the norm. No longer do you have to worry about "headshots" and the other staples of the shooter genre, but you can focus on the types of things that made us enjoy games when we were younger: a sense of wonder, whimsy, and the relentless pursuit of fun.

Please note that I play this game on PS3 and Vita, but I am posting my review (of Legends' content) for all consoles, because I feel this game deserves major credit.

Big Al

Every square inch of this game oozes heart, soul, charm, and whimsy.

The sheer amount of content puts many other games to shame: want to play single player? It's there. Want to obsessively collect items and trinkets? They're in there, but not in a way that makes it tedious. Want to play a simple yet hilariously competitive multiplayer game? Kung-Foot, the Shaolin Soccer simulator you always wanted is in there. Want a single player platformer with tight controls, great physics, amazing art and incredible music and sound design? It's there. Want to play the same with four players? You can do that too. Want daily and weekly challenges that you can play time and again to top the charts and compete against your friends? It's there.

There is way too much to do and way too much fun to be had. If you missed out on Rayman Origins, just get Legends as it even includes updated versions of the best levels from Rayman Origins that you can play! It really does have it all!

So I already completed this game on the Wii U, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It has become pretty much my favorite platformer of all time. And that is saying a lot, especially since I grew up with such great games through the 80's and 90's. I've just never been so enthusiastic about a game before. The music in this game is so great, including the absolutely fantastic music levels. The levels are also very finely tuned and while it sometimes doesn't feel forgiving, it sure does feel rewarding once you get it down. I felt that Origins felt pretty punishing at times (those treasure levels especially), but the Origins levels feel so much more vibrant here and I don't know if they re-tuned some of them, but they felt less frustrating than they were in the original game (which is also quite an amazing game, imo).

Anyhow, I bought the PC version because I wanted to start streaming it on Twitch (and it's cheaper than buying a good capture card for my Wii U). I sort of knew what to expect with the non-Wii U versions of the game because I've seen a few Let's Plays of it, but man, the Murphy stages feel so different using a conventional controller. And that's a good thing. For me, it breathed new life into an already excellent game. While I think the Wii U version is still the definitive version of the game, I'm having a blast unlocking everything all over again.

I hear that this game didn't make a lot of money for Ubisoft so far, and that's sad because great games deserve attention. You should buy this game. If you're not convinced, check out a youtube let's play of it or something and you won't be disappointed!!

No doubt this game is amazingly fun for single player or online experience. I want to focus my review on the Co-Op part of the game. I am a father of two boys, ages 6 and 7. We all three play this game together on local cooperative mode (Local Co-Op) and it's so fun that I recommend it to any father-son, brother-brother or even small party up to four people. The fact that if you die your friend needs to resurrect you creates a Co-Op angle that works great, since it allows for different levels of expertise to coexist and interact without frustration, everyone can try their best and everyone will have fun, even the ones that don't play so well will have, and even those that are so good that in other games get bored of waiting for the partner to complete, don't have to restrain at all in this game.
Sometimes the game seems very hard, at leas to me and my kids, but it's so well designed that you can skip the frustration and just go to another level, the storyline is very open and it allows for a great replay value, frustration free and Co-Op fun.

I short, this game is even better the Rayman Origins, it's amazingly fun, a masterpiece of fun gameplay...I dare say, best platformer series of this decade. I have Mario for Wii-U, and its hard and frustrating, and less fun.
